Being the daughter of a world-renowned naval architect and living in a
seaside community, much of Catherine’s inspiration is shaped by the
environment she was raised in. Her father bestowed a passion for his craft
and from an early age an indelible impression on Catherine’s own artistic
passions was made. Much of her childhood was spent creating art and
experiencing the landscapes that surrounded her—whether it was wondering
the beaches near home, basking in the rich hues of a Nantucket summer
sunset, or quietly drawing her feet through Damariscotta Lake in Maine.
Catherine graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from
the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. During this time she had the
distinct honor of studying abroad at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brugge,
Belgium. Her time there was formative as she traveled extensively absorbing
the magnificent art and history of eastern Europe. However, it was her
immersion in the Dutch art culture and the dramatic light and composition
of works by Rembrandt and Vermeer that most influenced her. Like these
masters Catherine strives to apply the same sensitivities in her subjects.
Catherine has exhibited internationally including the world-renowned
Arte en Capital in Paris, France. She has been published on many books
both nationally and internationally including International Contemporary
Masters VII and Important World Artists I. Several regional shows on the
Isles of Shoals, White Mountain and Cornish Art Colonies published books
in conjunction with the exhibitions. They include: Visions in Granite,
Volumes I & II: Two Hundred Years of Painting in New Hampshire’s
White Mountains; Island Light—Isles of Shoals and New Hampshire
Summer Colonies — Dublin and Cornish.
Catherine has had television appearances on NH Chronicle and
PBS’s Windows to the Wild. She has been published in many magazines,
including Coastal Home, Hamptons, Gotham and New Hampshire Home.
She is an awarded artist and her work has been displayed at the New
Hampshire State House.
Catherine and her family live in the seacoast area of New Hampshire –
a stones throw from all that inspires her.
